See Animation Smart Film in Action · One Sheet Split Into 40 Zones
A real test clip from the InHouse R&D Lab — a single sheet of PDLC smart film, laser-split into internal zones, each powered independently, working as digital blinds and an animation pattern switching on and off in rhythm, every mode controlled from a single remote.
What you'll see in the clip
- 1. A single sheet switching on and off in bands (Digital Blinds mode)
- 2. A graduated on/off pattern in an animation sequence
- 3. How seamless the laser cuts are — nearly invisible when clear
- 4. How fast the mode changes (within a fraction of a second)
Note: the clip is a test rig from the InHouse R&D Lab used to demonstrate the principle; actual installations use glass sized and patterned to the client's design — see the 40-channel architecture + the 6 possible modes in the sections below.
1 · What Is InHouse Animation Smart Film & Smart Glass?
InHouse Animation Smart Film and InHouse Animation Smart Glass are a Premium Custom Option from InHouse R&D that uses a laser technique to segment the working area (zone segmentation) within a PDLC/PNLC smart film (or Smart Glass switchable frosted glass) on a single sheet into up to 40 channels / 40 control points (1 channel = 1 zone · 1:1).
Ordinary PDLC smart film/switchable glass on the market can only be controlled as a whole pane — clear means the whole pane is clear, opaque means the whole pane is opaque, which doesn't serve premium design work that needs partial privacy · dynamic branding or animated visual storytelling.
InHouse Animation solves this by cutting the ITO (Indium Tin Oxide · transparent conductive layer) lines inside the film with a high-precision laser, separating each zone's power path so that each zone powers on and off independently. The result is a single sheet where some parts are clear and some opaque at the same time, and it can change every second.
2 · The Architecture · 40 Channels · 40 Zones per Sheet
The numbers that set InHouse Animation apart from "joining several film sheets together" are:
Why is a single sheet better than several joined together? — premium work that needs privacy/animation effects can also be done by joining several small film sheets together, but there are film seams between the sheets that show clearly when opaque, ruining the seamlessness of the design.
InHouse Animation uses a single seamless sheet of film/glass; the laser only cuts the internal ITO lines (which are so fine they're nearly invisible to the naked eye), so the finish is as seamless as a single sheet of film/glass while doing the work of dozens of panes.
3 · 6 Modes From a Single Sheet of Film/Glass
Once the film/glass can zone independently — the designer can program 6 main modes (with more custom options per brief) · switchable from a single remote without changing the film/glass.
Digital Blinds
Divided into horizontal strips that open and close like real Venetian blind slats replacing curtains or blinds that collect dust and are hard to clean, with adjustable open/close spacing.
Ideal for: meeting rooms · residences · bedroom windows · replacing ordinary blinds
Logo Display · Show Your Brand Logo
Laser the shape of your company logo as a separate zone in the film; at the press of a button you get 3 modes: whole pane clear except the logo opaque (the logo stands out) · whole pane opaque with only the logo clear (the logo becomes a window into the interior) · whole pane clear/opaque as usual.
Ideal for: corporate HQ reception · retail storefront · showroom · brand activation event
Custom Pattern · Freeform Shapes
Laser-cut into any shape you design — circles · triangles · geometric patterns · organic patterns, even a vector drawing the designer sends, with each shape an independently controlled zone.
Ideal for: hotel lobby art · restaurant centerpiece · museum / exhibition · luxury residence feature wall
Height-Level Privacy · Adjust by Height
Divided into horizontal levels, opaque only on the lower 1.8m (the eye level of passers-by) with the top clear (airy · natural light · not cramped), and you can change the height of the "dividing line" any time.
Ideal for: ground-floor homes people walk past · open-plan offices that need to hide keyboards/documents · townhouses on a street
Striped Privacy · Alternating Opaque-Clear
Divided into alternating opaque-clear-opaque-clear stripes · partly seeing inside (some privacy but not strict), ideal for situations where you want to "partition" while staying connected to the next room, with adjustable stripe spacing.
Ideal for: department partitions in an office · open bar-kitchen walls · VIP massage-spa rooms
Animation Sequence · Moving Effects
Program each zone to open and close in a timed sequence · make a wave · marquee scrolling · open row by row from top to bottom, or a pattern animation the designer creates, used as the visual identity of the space.
Ideal for: mall atrium · concert hall foyer · hotel lobby welcome · flagship store window
4 · One Remote · Works With Every Series
One Remote · No Need to Lock a Pattern at Install
What clearly sets InHouse Animation apart from market solutions — every mode/pattern mentioned above is controllable from the same single remote, with no need to commit to just one mode at install, and the designer/owner can change their mind after installation at any time.
The remote comes with preset buttons for frequently used modes (e.g. "Blinds Mode" · "Privacy Mode" · "Logo Showcase Mode") and connects to Smart Home (Google · Apple · Tuya · SmartThings) · Hotel RCU (Honeywell · INNCOM · Schneider · Lutron) · Meeting Room Control (Crestron · Extron · AMX), just like ordinary InHouse smart film.
Works With Every Series — Pair Premium With Aquaris™ / Lucida™
InHouse Animation's laser zone-segmentation technique works with every Series of Smart Film/Glass:
| Series | Animation Compatibility | Best for |

From InHouse's real experience — most premium customers pair the Animation Option with Aquaris™ (for facade/outdoor branding that must withstand sun and rain) or Lucida™ (for premium interiors that want top-tier clarity — InHouse, the clearest smart film on the market · clearer than the Indoor Series, at the Pure Clarity level), because those investing in a Premium Option often spec everything else at the top grade too.
5 · Animation Smart Film vs Smart Glass — Which to Choose?
InHouse Animation comes in both a Smart Film version (smart film applied over existing glass) and a Smart Glass version (switchable frosted glass · PDLC embedded in factory-laminated glass) — choose by site conditions:
Animation Smart Film
- Retrofit — applies over existing glass with no demolition
- Lower total cost (no need to replace glass)
- Can change to a new pattern in the future (peel off, re-apply)
- Shorter lead time (only the film is produced)
Ideal for: existing buildings · renovation work · offices that want flexibility · experimenting with patterns
Animation Smart Glass
- Factory-finish seamlessness — the film sits inside laminated glass
- Longer life (Smart Glass base 15+ years · +Aquaris/Lucida ~22.5+ years)
- Safety Glass (Tempered Laminated · fragments don't fall) — meets building standards
- Sound dampening 30-35 dB (from the EVA interlayer)
Ideal for: new buildings · Mega Projects · work that must be spec'd from the structural design phase

6 · Use Cases Where the Animation Option Shines
Corporate HQ · Reception & Boardroom
A company's reception glass wall that shows a large logo when welcoming VIP guests then returns to ordinary clear glass when they leave, or a boardroom that uses Striped Mode during confidential presentations (you can see activity but not the slide content).
Retail · Showroom · Flagship Store
A storefront that changes pattern by campaign (e.g. a Sale logo during a campaign · an animation wave at an event launch); at night when closed → whole pane opaque, and during opening hours → clear to invite customers in — all from a single remote.
Hotel Lobby · Restaurant Centerpiece
A hotel lobby glass wall that acts as an interactive centerpiece — a welcome animation as guests check in, a logo display for the event name (wedding · conference · brand activation), changeable every day without changing the glass — high hospitality ROI because guests remember it.
Luxury Residence · Mega House
A high-net-worth residence using digital blinds instead of master-bedroom curtains · a bathroom using Height-Level Privacy · a living room with animation lighting for entertaining guests — an effect your friends' homes don't have.
Exhibition · Event · Pop-up
An exhibition / pop-up store / brand activation that wants a memorable visual moment · Animation Smart Film/Glass creates a centerpiece that visitors photograph and share — earned media value far exceeding the install cost.

Frequently Asked Questions · InHouse Animation
What are 40 channels / 40 control points · is it really possible?
It's real · 40 channels means the maximum number of independent power circuits per 1 sheet of film/glass · 1 channel drives 1 independent zone (1:1), totalling up to 40 control points per sheet · the technique uses a laser to cut the ITO (Indium Tin Oxide, transparent conductive layer) lines inside the film to separate the power paths · the cut lines are so fine they're nearly invisible to the naked eye when clear.
Which grades of Smart Film/Glass can the Animation Option be done on?
Every grade — Indoor Series · Outdoor Series + Aquaris™ · Performance Series + Lucida™ · both Smart Film (PDLC/PNLC) and Smart Glass (laminated) · from InHouse experience, most premium customers investing in the Animation Option choose Aquaris™ (for facade/outdoor) or Lucida™ (for interiors that need high clarity), because a premium investment usually spec's everything else at the top grade too.
How much more does Animation Smart Film/Glass cost than ordinary film?
Price is case-by-case, depending on 5 factors — area size · pattern complexity · number of channels (1-40) · Series chosen · level of integration · it's noticeably higher than the ordinary film of the same model due to the laser process + custom design + production complexity · the InHouse R&D team issues a quotation within 1-3 business days of receiving the brief + pattern design + site dimensions.
What patterns are possible, and what are the limits?
Almost any 2D-shape pattern is possible — horizontal/vertical bands · circles · squares · triangles · company logos · geometric patterns · organic patterns · vector drawings · the main limits are: (1) the total number of zones can't exceed 40 per sheet (1 channel = 1 zone) (2) the laser line width has an engineering-defined minimum thickness (the R&D team advises after reviewing the design) (3) zones that are too small may have voltage-drop issues The R&D team helps adjust the pattern to be feasible before going into production.
Can one remote really control every mode/zone?
Yes — 1 remote controls every channel on the single sheet of film/glass · with preset buttons for frequently used modes (e.g. Blinds Mode · Privacy Mode · Logo Showcase Mode) · the designer/owner can change their mind and change the pattern after installation at any time · connects to Smart Home (Google · Apple · Tuya · SmartThings) · Hotel RCU (Honeywell · INNCOM · Schneider · Lutron) · Meeting Room System (Crestron · Extron · AMX · MS Teams · Zoom) just like ordinary InHouse film · InHouse engineers help integrate it for free.
Can Animation Smart Film be installed on glass that already has film?
Yes, but the existing film must be removed first (ordinary film/heat-blocking film/old smart film) · the InHouse crew can remove the old film during installation · the old-film removal is a separate cost depending on condition · we recommend flagging it during the site survey so it's included in the quotation.
Animation Smart Film vs Animation Smart Glass — which to choose?
Choose Animation Smart Film for an existing building/renovation or if you want the flexibility to change the pattern in the future (the film peels off and re-applies) · choose Animation Smart Glass for a new building spec'd from the structural design · when you want factory-finish seamlessness · Safety Glass (Tempered Laminated, fragments don't fall) · or a longer life (Glass 15+ years · +Aquaris/Lucida ~22.5+ years) · see the full comparison in the Smart Film vs Smart Glass article.
How many days is the production + installation lead time?
Depends on complexity — Smart Film Animation averages 2-3 weeks (custom laser pattern + production) · Smart Glass Animation averages 3-4 weeks (laminated glass production + curing time) · on-site installation is roughly 1-2 days per pane (depending on size + number of channels to wire) · the InHouse Project Manager confirms the timeline in the quotation.
If a channel/zone fails, can only that part be repaired?
Smart Film Animation — if a channel fails, that part of the film can be peeled off and replaced with new film in the same zone (the 24/7 InHouse crew handles the service) · Smart Glass Animation — if the base glass is fine but a channel fails, the wiring/transformer must be checked first (most issues are on the control side, not the glass) · if the fault is in the laminated glass itself, the whole pane must be replaced (like ordinary Safety Glass) · InHouse's Confidence Policy provides coverage.
Does Animation Smart Film use more power than ordinary Smart Film?
Power per square metre is the same as ordinary Smart Film (~3W/sqm/hr at full power) · but because with the Animation Option each zone only draws power when clear · areas set to opaque draw no power at all (PDLC mode is opaque by default = the default state · no power) · in real use, the total power is often lower than the same-size Smart Film pane kept clear all the time, because you don't turn on every zone at once.
