How much power does smart film use — is the electricity bill high?

Very little — only about 3 watts per square metre per hour (less than a single LED bulb). Left on all day, that averages under 1 THB per day per square metre. It runs on 24V–48V AC through a transformer, safer than 220V mains.

Can it be installed over my existing glass?

Yes. We offer a Self-Adhesive film designed to apply directly over your existing glass — no need to remove or demolish the old pane. It installs within a single day, cleanly and quickly.

Does it block heat and UV — how much can it cut temperature and AC use?

It helps considerably. Our top-grade Smart Film blocks IR (infrared/heat) 99.99% and UV 99.99%. Results depend on grade. The Indoor Series is designed for interior rooms (privacy + clarity) and is not pitched for heat rejection. The Outdoor Series + Aquaris™ blocks 40–55% of heat, cuts AC costs 25–40%, and lowers the temperature of objects behind the glass by 10–15°C (verified with a thermometer, film vs bare glass) — ideal for facades, balconies, glass houses and skylights. Versus typical market films (15–25% heat block, 10–20% AC saving), Aquaris™ uses an IR-rejection coating that InHouse developed in-house, the same foundation used in Smart Glass (50–65% heat block) and Smart Glass IGU + Low-E (75–88%). How do you clean smart film?

It is easy — dust it with a feather duster, or wipe it with regular alcohol. Never use ammonia-based glass cleaner, thinner, or corrosive chemicals.

Is installation billed separately from the film — how does the InHouse quote read?

InHouse itemizes costs across 3 clear line-items rather than one lump sum, so you see exactly what you pay for: 1) film / materials by chosen Series (Indoor / Outdoor Aquaris / Performance Lucida) · 2) installation 900–1,600 THB/sqm by site complexity, with a Price Ceiling Guarantee never exceeding 1,600 THB/sqm · 3) transformer + remote, by area, 100W–2000W. Is there a minimum order — will you install just one pane?

No minimum — any size. A single 1 sqm pane, one bathroom, a folding glass door, a small partition, right up to a Mega Project of 10,000+ sqm — InHouse treats every size the same. Because our crews are 100% in-house (never subcontracted), travel and tooling are our fixed costs, not passed to you. Small jobs get the same QC standard and warranty as a Mega Project.

What is the largest single sheet of smart film you can install?

InHouse Smart Film reaches a maximum width of 2.5 metres per sheet, with unlimited length (height) — we have installed up to 12 metres tall. We can go larger than others because InHouse controls production to its own specs and uses precision cutting equipment for oversized panes — no visible seams from joining sheets.

What is the difference between PDLC and PNLC, and which is better?

PDLC and PNLC are both switchable-film technologies but work in opposite ways. PDLC: power ON = clear / power OFF = opaque (fail-safe: privacy stays even in a power cut). PNLC: power ON = opaque / power OFF = clear (a power cut turns the glass clear). InHouse chooses PDLC as the default because it is safer (fail-safe), better value (PNLC film is much more expensive, while PDLC draws only 3W/sqm/hr), and the most widely used technology in the world. We recommend comparing samples with your own eyes before deciding.

Why is the Performance Series (Lucida™) the clearest when InHouse publishes no clarity number for it at all?

Short answer: because spec numbers cannot measure "the clarity your eye sees". Perceived clarity comes from 3 factors — (1) the quantity of light passing through (what the market calls VLT — it measures light quantity, not image sharpness) · (2) haze = the percent of light scattered, which blurs the image; every PDLC film on the market carries some inherent haze from the liquid crystal · (3) the color of the base polymer — ordinary market PDLC often has a whitish-yellow or bluish base, so even at equal light transmission the eye does not see equal clarity. Can smart film cover only half a pane, or just part of the glass?

Yes — this is a Smart Film advantage that Smart Glass cannot match. Smart Film can be applied any way: top half, bottom half, a mid band, an eye-level strip — zone privacy you define. Smart Glass is factory-embedded and must be full-pane. Smart film vs motorized blinds — how do they differ, and which should I pick?

Smart Film is film applied to glass that switches clear-to-opaque electrically; motorized blinds are ordinary blinds on a motor that slides open and shut — a different principle. Switching: Smart Film is instant electronic switching; blinds take 5–15 seconds of motor travel. Footprint: Smart Film is just 0.4mm thick and takes no space; blinds take 10–30 cm plus a track. IR/UV: Smart Film 99.99%; blinds depend on the fabric (typically 30–70%). Look: Smart Film reads as clean architectural glass; blinds are a traditional look. Can smart film be peeled off and reapplied?

Smart Film vs Smart Glass (switchable glass) — how do they differ, and which should I choose?

Both use the same InHouse PDLC/PNLC technology; they differ in tier and form. Smart Film (entry / mass-market) is a 0.4mm film applied over existing glass — retrofit-friendly, can cover only part of a pane (zone privacy), peels off and re-applies in 1 day, 6,700–14,800 THB/sqm, lasts 12+ years. Can I install smart film in a condo — do building management rules allow it?

Yes — it passes almost every condo rule, because InHouse Smart Film does not trigger the usual restrictions. It is not a mirror / reflective film (most condos ban reflective films that glare onto other units — Smart Film is PDLC and non-reflective). Its opacity is controllable: rules that cap film darkness at 40–60% do not apply because Smart Film switches clear ↔ opaque, and when clear it passes light almost like bare glass (Clarity 98% · Indoor Series). It does not change the facade — applied inside the glass, the building looks unchanged from outside. It needs no drilling or structural work — Self-Adhesive over existing glass. Best practice: notify building management with the InHouse spec sheet (we provide it) before installing; approval usually comes within 1–3 days. We have installed in 500+ Bangkok condo units.

Can I install smart film myself (DIY) — how does Self-Adhesive work?

You can, but it is not recommended for premium work. InHouse offers two options. Self-Adhesive: peel the backing and apply to the glass — fine for small DIY ≤1 sqm, film-only from 6,700 THB/sqm, shipped with a guide and basic tools. Professional Install (recommended): InHouse crews handle everything, including fully concealed wiring, transformer fitting and Smart Home setup, for a finish so seamless it does not look like film at all, with Damage Protection cover. DIY is discouraged for real projects because concealed wiring — the single most important install USP — is hard to achieve; bubbles and uneven edges show every time the film switches; miscalculating the transformer load can permanently damage the film; and DIY damage is not covered by warranty. In short: DIY is fine for trials, temporary or small areas; for premium work needing a seamless finish and full warranty, use the InHouse crew.

How long does smart film installation take — does it disrupt the space?

It is fast and low-impact. Time depends on size: 1–3 sqm (single pane, bathroom, folding door) takes 1–2 hours, done in a day · 10–30 sqm (meeting room, home) takes half a day to a day · 30–100 sqm (office, showroom) takes 1–3 days · 100+ sqm (Mega Project facade) takes 3–7 days by complexity. It is fast because InHouse uses 100% in-house engineers and crews, CNC cutting to real size, and 10,000+ sqm of stock per model — no waiting. Disruption is minimal: installed from the inside of the glass, no demolition, the area is closed only during the install, and it is usable immediately after.

Will installation damage my furniture or glass — what standards and liability does InHouse hold?

No damage. InHouse follows a 10-step Pro-Grade Installation SOP designed to prevent damage and deliver a finish so seamless it does not look like film at all. Before: (1) drop cloths over furniture and floors · (2) prepare the electrical system to plan · (3) inspect the glass and produce a Defect Report of any pre-existing marks, signed off by you before work starts. During: (4) cut film and prepare the power supply · (5) apply and squeegee the film flush · (6) chase out every speck of dust · (7) run a silicone edge finish · (8) fit the frame and fully conceal all wiring. After: (9) test every pane's switching · (10) a separate QC team does a final quality check before handover. Work is done by 100% in-house crews, no subcontracting. My smart film from another shop failed fast — can InHouse fix it, and how do I pick the right grade?

The process: (1) survey the site and diagnose the failure — usually the wrong grade for the use-case, or a substandard install. Smart film (switchable film) is an intelligent PDLC film that instantly turns clear glass frosted and opaque with a flick of power — replacing conventional curtains and window tint. The market claims VLT of 74–98% (manufacturer-claimed figures), heat (IR) rejection 73–99%, and UV protection 99%+, depending on grade and technology. PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) technology works by aligning liquid-crystal molecules with an electric field — like a "digital curtain" that controls the glass from clear to opaque at your fingertips, turning ordinary spaces into smart ones.

When the power is off (OFF), the molecules scatter freely and the glass turns frosted and opaque, blocking the view instantly. Prepare the film + power system

The Wrong Smart Film Grade = a Short Life

Every grade of Smart Film is engineered for a different environment. High-humidity areas, areas that get waterlogged, or exterior facades exposed directly to sun and rain need a dedicated Exterior Grade. Choose a grade that doesn't match the use, and the film degrades faster than its real lifespan — or can fail right after exposure to water or high heat.

02. Don't Just Chase a High VLT

A high VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) doesn't always mean a better smart film. Raising VLT means "compressing the liquid-crystal layer thinner" so more light passes through — but at the cost of a more fragile PDLC structure and a shorter lifespan. High VLT ≠ the clarity your eye sees — you have to compare it with your own eyes on real glass.

What is the largest size smart film can be installed in?

InHouse Smart Film comes in a maximum width of 2.5 meters per sheet, with unlimited length (height) — we've installed runs up to 12 meters long.

We can go bigger than others on the market because InHouse controls production to its own specs and uses dedicated Precision Cutting machinery built for oversized sheets — no visible seams to join panels, so any large glass pane can be cut to fit exactly.

PDLC vs PNLC — what's the difference, and which is better?

A popular question. PDLC and PNLC are both smart film technologies, but they work on opposite principles:

PDLC — power ON = clear / power OFF = opaque (fail-safe: power cut = privacy stays)
PNLC — power ON = opaque / power OFF = clear (power cut = glass instantly clear, all privacy lost)

Why does InHouse choose PDLC as its primary technology?

Safer (fail-safe): a power cut or brownout leaves the glass opaque — privacy is never lost.
Better value: PNLC costs far more as a product, while PDLC draws only 3W/sqm/hr (less than one LED bulb) — the energy saved never justifies the price gap.
The market-standard technology: PDLC is the most widely used worldwide, with a long track record and readily available parts.

So is PNLC actually better? 3 facts worth knowing:

Power cut = no privacy: PNLC is clear by default, so a power cut or brownout turns the glass clear instantly, with no privacy — unlike PDLC, which goes opaque on power loss (fail-safe).
Far pricier — but does it really save energy? PDLC draws only 3W/sqm/hr (less than one LED bulb), a few hundred THB a year. The price gap would take over 50 years to pay back.
Higher VLT ≠ clearer: PNLC may advertise a higher VLT, but VLT is a machine measurement — it doesn't reflect the clarity your eye actually sees. Compare with your own eyes.

Is smart film the same as window tint film? How do they differ?

Smart Film is not window tint. Both are "film" stuck to glass, but they're entirely different categories:

Why is the Performance Series (Lucida™) clearer than the Indoor Series when Indoor already has Clarity 98% (optical clarity · measured value)?

A common misconception — VLT (the number) ≠ clarity (what the eye sees). They are separate metrics; a high VLT number doesn't always mean the clearest to the eye.

1. What is VLT?
VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) = the percentage of light that passes through the film · a spectrophotometer measurement · it says how much light gets through, not how sharp the image is.

2. What is haze? (the culprit that blurs the image)
