Why does it need both Tempered + Laminated layers? Isn't Tempered enough?
A single tempered pane = safety glass that breaks into small pebbles, but it is not laminated, so the PDLC film could come loose
Tempered + Laminated = the film is held permanently in the middle by EVA · the glass pebbles stay bonded together if broken, and don't fall
This structure is the Safety Glass standard used in high balconies · balustrades · skylights, because tempered alone lets the film loosen · lamination is required

Switchable glass (also known as Smart Glass · PDLC glass · or privacy glass) is laminated tempered glass with a PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film embedded between two layers of glass via an EVA interlayer.
With voltage OFF, liquid crystals scatter randomly — the glass appears frosted/opaque. With AC 65V applied, the crystals align — the glass becomes clear (Clarity 98% · optical clarity · measured · Indoor Series). It switches in 0.1 seconds.
